DescriptionA settlement, often associated with a university, was a lodging house with a warden where students could live paying a fixed fee for board and lodging and 'take a more active part in social progress and to learn something of the conditions of industrial life'. Marjory attended the University Settlement, Ancoats for three months in 1900 wanting experience of social work. For more information on settlements see M/6/17/1.
