Diaries The author of these diaries is not obvious but due to the dates and the fact that Charles travelled abroad it is very likely that these diaries were written by him. At the time of the first diary he would have been roughly 19 years old, an age when a man of his social position would have undertaken travel to the continent to improve language skills and undertake their own 'grand tour'. 1859-1869
