  <dc:title>Eli Lees</dc:title>
  <dc:description>Eli, son of Samuel and Sarah lees, was born in 1814. Eli Lees married Ann Sharples at Oldham Church on 21 April 1834.  Together they had five children, Adam Henry born 1836, Charles Edward born, 1840, Mary Anne born 1843, Lucy born 1846 and Jane born 1848.  Eli Lees was a cotton manufacture in Oldham.  In 1847 he joined together with John Platt, Samuel Radcliffe and Josiah Radcliffe to buy the land that now forms Werneth Park.  Each of the four built and maintained a house and garden on the land and the remainder became a park for their common enjoyment.  After the marriage of his son Charles, Eli handed the family home in Werneth Park over to him fully furnished and moved to 102 Lancaster Gate, London.  Eli died there in 1892 and Ann followed him in 1896.</dc:description>
