| Description | Admin History: Thomas Henshaw's original vision for the school was that it should be a school for the education of poor boys of the area. The school developed the ethos of an all-round education, which involved the management of students' time away from the school room. To facilitate this, there was boarding for all the students at the school. Under the 1944 Education Act, Henshaw's applied to be granted aided status. Under the Minister's scheme, the residential side of the school could continue as a hostel. Efforts were made to encourage the use of the facility by local authorities, but with falling numbers and rising prices the hostel section of the school closed in 1952.
