Henshaw's Blind Asylum
Description
In addition to bequeathing money for the maintenance of a Blue Coat school, Thomas Henshaw also bequeathed £20,000 for the maintenance of a Blind Asylum. The Asylum was opened in 1839 and located in Old Trafford. The institution is now known as Henshaw's Society for Blind People and is still active in providing advice and training to anyone affected by sight loss. This section contains miscellaneous items found within the school collection relating to the blind asylum. The items have been listed in chronological order.
