| Description | This series incorporates archives recording admissions to the school. There are several different formats to the documents which change over time. Candidate lists: The first candidate lists produced are loose and are often lists of boy's names that were put forward to the trustees, from which they would elect a proportion to the school. The forms record, for each potential candidate, number, name, age, residence, circumstances, remarks and, on some, whether elected [admitted]. Notes on candidates' registers: Later the admission records become bound in volumes called 'Notes on Candidates Registers' which provide the same kind of admission information as the candidates list but in book form. The books record, for each potential candidate, number, name, residence, circumstances and whether elected [admitted]. Admission registers: From 1950, the admission records become the standard registers used in most schools at the time. The registers record, for each pupil, admission number, admission date, name, date of birth, address, name of parent/guardian, last school attended, former class, date of withdraw, last class [standard obtained], cause of leaving. These volumes usually have an index to aid research. Note: There is a standard restriction period of 50 years for admission registers |
