Description | This class comprises a proprietary music book (FIT/3/1), and six separate items in common form (FIT/3/2 - FIT/3/7). The latter are all marked as Sam Fitton's work, as are some of the contents of FIT/3/1. This contains the majority of the scores, together with a few incidental notes, but no lyrics. Disbound, with loose and inserted pages, its internal order was found somewhat disarranged. It has been paginated to reflect the most logical arrangement of the works, and placed first in this list. The remaining six of the seven works comprise musical scores which are pasted into brown paper and card covers. Lyrics and some patter sheets on loose papers were found clipped inside. The scores are generally written in ink over pencil. The loose sheets are typescript, with manuscript amendments and additions in pencil and pen. Some items contain small portrait illustrations, and all are undated. Cross-references are provided to associated works in this collection. Patter: amusing lines delivered rapidly by an entertainer or performer, as in a comic routine or in a song. Playlet: A short play Verse: Poetry as distinct from prose Lyric: A short poem of song like quality |
