TitleChaplain's Records
DescriptionAdmin History: The school chaplain was responsible for the moral and religious welfare of the students while they were resident at the school. The chaplain's duties were to attend the school at least once a week to inspect the boys in their catechism as well as their moral and religious discipline. These visits were recorded in a book and a report was sent quarterly to the school trustees on the state of religious education in the school. The chaplain received a salary of twenty pounds per year for his duties. Initially the trustees approached the vicar of Oldham St. Mary's to take on this role. He had to decline the role and William Lees was invited to take on the role. William held the role from 1835 for over twenty years.
