Description | Admin History: During the School's history, the management of the school and various aspects of its running have been overseen by initially one committee and later various committees. There have also been proposals and developments that have changed the nature of the school, such as the closure of the boarding section and the change to aided status.
The School was originally an independent charity school maintained by the endowment left by Thomas Henshaw. In 1950 it became part of the Oldham, Henshaw & Church of England Educational Trust and was run as a voluntary school. Jul 1952 saw the winding up of the school as a residential institution and it was re-organised to become a Secondary Modern School admitting both boys and girls. The school was further reorganised and in 1966 became a comprehensive school. It is now (2009) a Voluntary Aided Comprehensive School admitting over 200 pupils each year and providing post 16 education.
