Description | Admin History: The keeping of a school logbook or diary was first instituted in 1862. The logbook was to be kept by the Head and was to contain details of events at the school, especially those worthy of permanent record in the life of a school.
It is not know at what date the Blue Coat School began to keep a log book and any produced before 1932 were not found when the current collection was catalogued.
Scope and Content: S64/11/1-3 are titled 'Governor's day books' and were instituted by the new headmaster, G. Manley. His aim was to keep a record of day-to-day important events, as would be expected in a normal log book. In addition, the Head also chose to include suggestions for the consideration of the trustees, etc. S64/11/4-6 record the day-to-day events of the school, but do not have the additional suggestions for the trustees that Mr Manley included in the earlier volumes.
In all volumes, reports of the activities of the school can be found. Each volume also contains some additional information, including newspaper cuttings, reports, correspondence, invitations, menus, event programmes, etc.
